Hong Kong House of Stories is a museum located in Wan Chai. It is also known as the blue house. The Blue House was previously called “Wah To Hospital”, a place where it was rebuilt in 1920s. This building is made with bricks, has wood floors, windows, doors, staircases and balconies. The house was originally white, but the government decided to paint it blue from leftover paint back in 1997. However, they agreed to keep part of it with the original white after the government discussed with local community. The Blue House Cluster is to show authentic Chinese shop houses and combine both lifestyle and culture together. Residents in the Cluster have lived there for a long time and some still live upstairs in the Blue House. Blue House No.72A, was once a grocery store back in the 1980s, but became Hong Kong House of Stories now. It is used as a place to organize cultural events, exhibitions, have workshop to promote local cultures and even included in a guided tour. It is a museum that also offers shows and music concerts for people to join in the community.  

 As for information on “Wah To Hospital”, it was a hospital that served the local community. The construction of Tung Wah Hospital in 1870, Wah To Hospital slowly went out of business and eventually got closed in 1886. Site of Wah To Hospital is then turn in to a temple to respect the God of Medicine. The temple went through renovation and had its exterior restored. Later on, the temple was used as a bone setting service then pass to another generation to operate as a clinic.

Blue house has its great history and it is a living space to represent the old Hong Kong. It is a small museum that brings awareness for people to appreciate the surrounding culture. Although Hong Kong House of Stories is a small museum, it is divided into two areas, the exhibition area and the handcraft area. The exhibition area is to present information of local Hong Kong culture. As for handcrafted area, it shows all the cultural handcrafted arts. Visitors are welcome to purchase them as souvenirs, and to create their own.

Blue house is a place for history and architecture lovers. The blue house has a bit more of a European style. In the blue house, it shows a lot of furniture, paper, movies, and things that allow visitors to understand the history and what people were like in the old centuries. Visitors who join the walking tour of Wan Chai would also get to visit Blue House as part of the tour.

It is a small café that served well balanced delicious food that believe in health cooking – less salt, sugar and oil and no MSG. It changes their menu frequently, serve snacks, soups, seasonal fish, and traditional sweet soup, like Chinese desserts.
